| Although
the Hofstra Ice Hockey team is considered a club sport, the
program is run in a very professional manner. Funded through
the Student Government, the team is one of the most reputable
organizations on campus.
The Hofstra
Ice Hockey program is a member of the Metropolitan Collegiate
Hockey Conference and the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
The team plays between 25 and 30 games per season and practices
one or two times a week. The home ice for the program is Long
Beach Arena located in Long Beach. For all away games the
team travels together via coach bus.
All team members
are required to be full time students and in good academic
standing with the University. Players that fall below the
recommended GPA are required to attend study hall. The season
begins with a general interest meeting during the second week
of September. After the meeting the team conducts an open
try-out.
The season
begins in the middle of October and runs to early March.
All practices
and games are suspended for major holidays and school closings.
The team consists
of approximately 25 players and two coaches. The players come
from various team around the northeast region. Most players
have played either at the varsity high school level or with
a travel hockey program.
